Big data gets a lot of coverage but in reality it’s just an enabling technology. In my view data only becomes of real value when it can be turned into information that can actually be used to achieve a specific objective.
A lot of the current focus is on using big data for eCommerce sites but it’s the stores on high street that need the most help. The challenge is acting on big and small data to make changes to prices and promotions that encourages shoppers to buy NOW in stores. As with everything in retail it’s all down to smart execution and there are products and services that can help make the shelf edge as smart, or even smarter, than an Amazon screen.
